If the splinter can be grasped with a tweezer instead of a needle, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends using rubbing alcohol to disinfect the tweezer. After removing the splinter, make sure to thoroughly disinfect and cover the area.

Tweezers don't break down or expire, but they will lose the ability to grab hair after some time. When that happens, it's either time for a replacement or to sharpen them. “If your tweezer isn't grabbing the hair, it needs to be realigned and sharpened,” or you may need to purchase a new pair.  says Rebecca

To sharpen your tweezers, tightly pinch the tips around a double-sided nail file or piece of sandpaper. Pull the tweezers in short, sharp motions across the surface so they can become sharper. You may need to repeat this movement 3 to 4 times to get them as sharp as you want them to be.

Anywhere from 12-24 months as long as you are keeping them in a safe and secure place where they aren't becoming damaged or using them on harsh surfaces or for things other then brows and facial hair.

To keep them sanitary, tweezers should be cleaned after every use. For overall cleaning, wash the entire implement with hand soap and warm water. Then, dip the tips in rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, or rub with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Allow to air dry on a clean towel.
